Those of us who remember how things were 50 years or more ago should take the time to make their memories available to younger people. A world without the internet, without on screen games and where direct face to face conversation substituted for texts, emails and so called social media - was it better? Was it worse? Whichever, it was certainly different. PLEASE do add comments - thank you. Search this blog using the search box at the bottom or choose a topic from the labels on the right.

Getting to school in the 50's and 60's
Maybe my mother took me to school on odd occasions - but I really have no recollection of that. I do remember running to and from school (primary school) most days in order to save the one and half old pence bus fare; when I went by bus, it was not a school bus, it was an ordinary bus (the 119 or 194a if I remember correctly). At one stage, I was cycling 15 miles each way to and from my grammar school - not on cycle lanes, but on the normal traffic laden road; no crash helmet, just a yellow cape in the rain, cycling gauntlets when it was cold and, of course, cap on my head; most other boys at my school (boys only, no mixed sex schools then) also walked, ran or cycled to school - I have no memory of any pupil being driven to school by a parent.
