Those of us who remember how things were 50 years or more ago should take the time to make their memories available to younger people. A world without the internet, without on screen games and where direct face to face conversation substituted for texts, emails and so called social media - was it better? Was it worse? Whichever, it was certainly different. PLEASE do add comments - thank you. Search this blog using the search box at the bottom or choose a topic from the labels on the right.

Rhodesia to Zimbabwe
Cecil Rhodes was the man who, not surprisingly, founded Rhodesia. If I heard anything about it in the 50s and 60s it was as a prosperous and peaceful country which was, I think, referred to as the breadbasket of Africa because of its fertility and good farming. It was in the 70s that Ian Smith got involved and, in effect, took Rhodesia out of the British Empire. Somewhere along the line, a certain cgentleman called Mister Mugabe ousted Smith and changed the oppressive regime under the British to the freedom filled country that is Zimbabwe, a place where inflation is a joke and the ability to feed themselves, let alone export food, seems to have vanished. I am not a supporter of colonialism but I do occasionally wonder if the average Zimbabwean prefers his current freedom to his previous oppressed state in Rhodesia - anyone any views?
