Tea bags; teapot warming

Tea bags were not very common in the 50s.  They were viewed with suspicion as something that foreigners (who knew nothing about tea making) used; my own experience of tea in France and Switzerland at that time was that a cup of tepid water would be served with a tea bag at the side – not good! We used to have the ceremony of tea pot warming – essential if a good cup of tea is to be produced when using loose leaf tea; I knew of one person who, having warmed the pot, would separately warm the spout! Oh yes, we knew how to make good tea back in the old days!
