Tea bags were not very common in the 50s. They were viewed with suspicion as something
that foreigners (who knew nothing about tea making) used; my own experience of
tea in France and Switzerland at that time was that a cup of tepid water would
be served with a tea bag at the side – not good! We used to have the ceremony
of tea pot warming – essential if a good cup of tea is to be produced when
using loose leaf tea; I knew of one person who, having warmed the pot, would separately
warm the spout! Oh yes, we knew how to make good tea back in the old days!
Those of us who remember how things were 50 years or more ago should take the time to make their memories available to younger people. A world without the internet, without on screen games and where direct face to face conversation substituted for texts, emails and so called social media - was it better? Was it worse? Whichever, it was certainly different. PLEASE do add comments - thank you. Search this blog using the search box at the bottom or choose a topic from the labels on the right.
