I think bananas came from a land called Fyffes although, as I didn't much like them, I did not take much notice. Most vegetables were, I think, seasonal and we did not import symmetrically perfect beans from Kenya at odd times of year. Dates and figs cropped up every Christmas and usually remained uneaten. Broccoli was unheard of until the sixties when he made a Bond film. Lettuce was, I am sure, used mainly for the pet rabbits. We knew spuds, carrots, cabbage, peas and not a lot else. Tomatoes were grown by Mr. Martin next door.
Those of us who remember how things were 50 years or more ago should take the time to make their memories available to younger people. A world without the internet, without on screen games and where direct face to face conversation substituted for texts, emails and so called social media - was it better? Was it worse? Whichever, it was certainly different. PLEASE do add comments - thank you. Search this blog using the search box at the bottom or choose a topic from the labels on the right.
