Those of us who remember how things were 50 years or more ago should take the time to make their memories available to younger people. A world without the internet, without on screen games and where direct face to face conversation substituted for texts, emails and so called social media - was it better? Was it worse? Whichever, it was certainly different. PLEASE do add comments - thank you. Search this blog using the search box at the bottom or choose a topic from the labels on the right.

Whitewood plywood furniture
In the 60s and into the early 70s, much whitewood furniture was available. It might well have been available in the 50s but, to be honest, I have no recollection of it. The white referred to the unstained unfinished white looking plywood that the furniture was made of. The items that were mostly sold were bedside cabinets, chests of drawers, ottomans, blanket boxes and wardrobes. Furniture was assembled and should not be confused with KD (knock down) furniture. A lot of this furniture was sold through the major mail order catalogues like Kays, BMOC, Grattans, Empire, Littlewoods, Freemans, Pinnacle and many others. Unlike much furniture, this whitewood furniture was made and sold in the UK, not imported. Does it exist anymore?
