Charles Atlas was a bodybuilder who developed a method for
people to develop their muscles and physiques. The main thing was ‘dynamic
tension’ where you matched one of your muscles against another and exercised
that way; no idea if it worked as I clearly had not need for further
development (?!). The most memorable part of the Charles Atlas programme was
the advertising which was mainly hand drawn depictions of weedy men being put
down by others with big muscles and marvellous copy along the lines of (check
it if it is important to you, this is from memory only) ‘are you a 7 stone
weakling?’ ‘don’t let them kick sand in your face’ – sure you can remember
others so please add them - thanks
Those of us who remember how things were 50 years or more ago should take the time to make their memories available to younger people. A world without the internet, without on screen games and where direct face to face conversation substituted for texts, emails and so called social media - was it better? Was it worse? Whichever, it was certainly different. PLEASE do add comments - thank you. Search this blog using the search box at the bottom or choose a topic from the labels on the right.
