Elbows on tables

Elbows never went on tables on the 50s. Families would, generally, eat together sitting at the dining table; children would be expected to eat properly, using their knives and forks and putting an elbow on the table was viewed as very bad manners. Television was NOT watched whilst eating although, if it was time for the news, the radio might be switched on.
