Vending machines used to be found in convenient locations on
the streets accessible at any time of day; I expect some got robbed or
vandalised but I never saw one where that had happened. Chocolate, sweets,
stamps and cigarettes used to be conveniently available. They could be found on
walls or special posts outside shops, near bus stops, outside petrol station –
all available whether or not the premises were open. Tends to argue that there
was less crime and more respect for property in the 50s.
Those of us who remember how things were 50 years or more ago should take the time to make their memories available to younger people. A world without the internet, without on screen games and where direct face to face conversation substituted for texts, emails and so called social media - was it better? Was it worse? Whichever, it was certainly different. PLEASE do add comments - thank you. Search this blog using the search box at the bottom or choose a topic from the labels on the right.
