Litter and rubbish

Of course, in the 50s and 60s, there was a lot less rubbish and litter on the streets. It might have been because people had less money and therefore less to throw away, that fast food places like McDonald's and KFC did not exist (really, other than fish and chips, there was no fast food) and few would have had the money to use them anyway – or maybe it was because people were more polite and therefore less likely to spoil other people’s environment.
