Like many - probably most - people of my generation, I cheerfully smoked my way through a fortune in cigarettes in the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s. For many of those years, I would have gone through 40 a day and at times I would have hit 3 packs a day. Probably a physical length of over 30 miles! Got to be honest and say that I enjoyed it. There were many brands available and I am going to list those that I remember trying, though probably failing, to restrict it to those of the 50s and 60s. In no particular order, those packets of cigarettes . . .
Capstan full strength, Weights, Woodbines, Sobranie Black Russian, Sobranie Cocktail (those two last were the ultimate in cool for a teenager), Players navy cut, Senior Service, du Maurier, Gold Flake, Dunhill, Strand (that may have been the 70s), Pall Mall, Rothmans, Players Viginia 6, Silk Cut, Park Drive, Kent, Peter Stuyvesant, Guards, Churchmans,
Tobacco that I remember was Sobranie Balkans pipe tobacco, Golden Virginia, Sun Valley, cigarette rolling tobacco,
It would be good if you would add those that you remember - I will add more as I remember more
Those of us who remember how things were 50 years or more ago should take the time to make their memories available to younger people. A world without the internet, without on screen games and where direct face to face conversation substituted for texts, emails and so called social media - was it better? Was it worse? Whichever, it was certainly different. PLEASE do add comments - thank you. Search this blog using the search box at the bottom or choose a topic from the labels on the right.
