The Suez crisis

One of the main things that I remember about the Suez crisis is that I felt I should walk about looking serious; I understood that it was about Colonel Nasser of Egypt wanting to have control over the Suez Canal (it does go through Egypt) but I don't think that our Anthony Eden (PM) and the French (who had designed and built it) thought that a great idea.  However, at the time, I probably understood little except that it was serious.
