Who's calling on the 'phone?
A lot of the people alive today will not remember a time when one could not tell who was calling when the 'phone rang. In the 50s and the 60s - and indeed into the 70s - there was no way of telling. During the 80s I think it was possible but not widespread. Used to be quite exciting wondering who was calling!

These days even when there is no number or name that comes up on your phone you know that it is likely to be someone who wants to sell you something so you can put the phone down and troll off to make yourself a cup of tea.
